Matt Christie, an SCGSR student working with Steve Pain (ORNL), successfully defended his PhD thesis on November 5th. Working with Miguel Madurga, his thesis advisor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, he studied beta-delayed spectroscopy of the exotic nuclei fluorine-27 and 29. For his SCGSR project, which also was featured as part of his thesis, he studied the radiative width of the Hoyle State in carbon-12 using GODDESS. Matt will be starting a postdoc position with Mathieu Benoit in the RNP group at ORNL.
